Istanbul

Your complete travel companion for exploring Istanbul

Destination Planning Brief

First-hand experience James Okonkwo — three visits; last March 2025 covering Sultanahmet, Karaköy, Kadıköy ferry routes.

Istanbul is two cities joined by ferries — and your budget changes depending which shore you sleep on. In Karaköy we paid ₺2,800 (~$85) for a clean double with Bosphorus-view breakfast; Sultanahmet equivalents ran ₺3,400+ the same week. Ferry rides (Eminönü–Kadıköy) cost ₺25 one-way in 2025 — cheaper than taxis stuck on the Galata Bridge approach. Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque area floods by 10:30; we queued 40 minutes on a Saturday but 15 on Tuesday. Street simit + tea breakfast: ₺45–60. A proper kebap plate in Kadıköy Moda: ₺280–350. Grand Bazaar carpet pitches are optional — the Spice Market morning is enough for atmosphere without hard sells.

Neighborhoods Worth Knowing

Sultanahmet

Kadıköy (Asian side)

Local food market, ferries to European side 20 min. Lower hotel pressure.
